Conductive/Static Dissipative Flooring Systems
Static Dissipative Flooring (SDF) systems are specialized flooring designed to safely control and dissipate static electricity. Unlike conductive flooring, which rapidly discharges static, SDF slows down the discharge rate, preventing electrostatic discharge (ESD) events that can damage sensitive electronic equipment, ignite flammable materials, or disrupt critical processes. SDF typically consists of a flooring material with specific electrical resistance properties, often incorporating conductive fillers or additives, and is grounded to provide a path for static electricity to flow safely to earth.
The effectiveness of an SDF system depends on several factors, including the flooring material itself, the underlayment used (if any), the grounding system, and the environmental conditions. The flooring material is selected based on the specific application and the desired level of static control, with options ranging from epoxy and vinyl to rubber and carpet. Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial to preserve the flooring’s static dissipative properties, as dirt and contaminants can interfere with its ability to dissipate static electricity. Proper grounding is also essential, and should be regularly inspected to ensure its integrity. By controlling static electricity, SDF provides a safer and more reliable environment for industries that are particularly vulnerable to the effects of ESD.
Static Dissipative Flooring Systems are appropriate for computer rooms and suites, laboratories, surgical suites where a spark from static electricity can ignite the volatile gases; electronics assembly facilities, clean rooms, etc. any application that requires a static-free environment.
Electroguard Flooring Group
Electroprime WB — Specifically designed for use under Electroguard SD and Electroguard CD systems, this product offers excellent adhesion capabilities and has a fast cure time allowing for faster re-coating.
Electroguard CD — A unique seamless conductive flooring system that provides excellent electrical conductivity and non-sparking capabilities along with outstanding chemical and abrasion resistance.
Electroguard SD — A specially formulated seamless, static dissipating flooring system that provides excellent static control capabilities along with outstanding chemical and abrasion resistance for any environment where electrostatic discharge can not be tolerated.
Special Considerations
The Electroguard floor system is available in two specific ohms resistance ranges. Electrical Static Static Dissipative Flooring Systems in an ohms range of 106 to 109 ohms — Electroguard SD; or in conductive ranges of 25,000 to 106 ohms — Electroguard CD. Either version of Electroguard Static Dissipative Flooring Systems must be ordered from Duraguard to meet one of these specific resistance requirements for the specified project.
It is necessary to use the appropriate primer with the selected and corresponding Electroguard floor system (i.e., ESD over ESD and conductive over conductive) to achieve desired ohms (electrical resistance readings.)
Without exception, deadening or insulating the substrate will be required prior to applying the Electroguard floor system, by using Durapoxy AP 100.
Duraguard Solutions intense familiarity and knowledge of the product combined with a hands-on approach to working through the details of the installation with the end user ranks Duraguards’ SDT team at the top of the industry.
Obviously, durability is an important component when choosing automotive showroom flooring. Not only will people be in and out of the room all the time directly from the outdoors, you’ll need to move vehicles around as you change your stock or your layout. The floor you choose needs to be able to stand up to this kind of heavy use without taking damage and needing to be replaced immediately.
However, plain concrete or similar industrial automotive Showroom flooring may be great for a warehouse, but it simply won’t cut it for your automotive showroom floors. Appearance is just as important as durability in this case. You want a floor that is in line with your branding and that looks polished and finished without taking attention away from the vehicles. Smooth, seamless, modern-looking surfaces are the current trend for the contemporary automotive showroom floor.
Durapoxy AP 100
